That the customers that I bend over backwards to accommodate are the ones that complain the most. Why are people so ungrateful?

maybe they have an undeserved sense of entitlement?

Have you ever thought about the possibility that the reason why they complain so much is because you bend over backwards for them?

I often wonder what would happen if I came into their work and treated them the way they treat me.

Because some people are assholes.
Simple as that.

I guess I just hate taking advantage of people's kindness. Obviously these people have no problem with doing so.
My working theory is that I have to bend over backwards because they come in difficult. They just seem more so after they've moved on.

Sometimes you can make them stop complaining by being an asshole right back.

I was hoping to stay away from the route. But it looks like I may be wandering down it...

I know the feeling. I have had a customer or two that I've needed to ban. Sometimes when you do that they start backpedaling and try to get back into YOUR good graces.

Some people are just going to be. They usually want to feel special. You have to focus on the others and not get bogged down.

You should do that to one customer. The few times I have been at a dealer to buy a car, I generally let a salesperson know if I am not going to buy that day and try to take up minimal of their time but take their card and if I go back I speak to them.
When I worked in the service dept. of a dealer there were just some people that were giant dicks. But when it comes down to it, the really cool customers seem just so much better and it makes dealing with the nice ones so much better.
I've always wanted to see a person being a dick when they had no reason to do so and go to their work place and be a giant dick head to them and then after the encounter tell them if they didn't like that then they should be a nicer human being.
Working in the car business is tough, some people know what is up and try to make shit as painless as possible and have everything in order when they go to purchase the car, then there are others who demand to be catered to. The way I see it, the people who demand personal special treatment really deserve no special deals and zero wiggle room on negotiation and to be charged extra for every convenience they demand.
TL;DR: Dicks deserve to pay for their dickish attitudes.
